Twenty-one athletes from the Carroll County Special Olympics team will be lining up around the high school track in Hillsville at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, and Coach Vickey Ritchie would like to invite the public to “volunteer to cheer” during the Track and Field Classic.

Opening ceremonies begin at 2 p.m. with the torch, the singing of the National Anthem, and the presentation of the colors by the ROTC Color Guard. This will be the third annual Track and Field Classic, and has enjoyed the same fan support that the team receives each year for their basketball classic. The finish line will be on the Cavalier Express end of the track, with canopies where spectators can set up a lawn chair and see the action up close. Two hours of track and field competition will conclude at 4 p.m. with an awards ceremony for the athletes and refreshments for everyone.
