John Kelly scored a game-high 25 points and Grundy made nine free throws in the final minute Friday to hold off Carroll County 69-62 in a Southwest District game in Hillsville.
Despite trailing most of the game, Carroll County (2-17, 1-9 SWD) stayed within striking distance throughout. Down 60-53 late in the fourth quarter, Adam Crotts knocked down a 3-pointer to trim the margin to four points. After Grundy (12-7, 5-4 SWD) missed a pair of free throws, Brandon Noonkester made good on both of his foul shots to pull the Cavaliers to within 60-58 with 1:07 left to play. Grundy then knocked down 9-of-12 free throws the rest of the way, outscoring Carroll 9-3 down the stretch to secure the victory.
Carroll led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and briefly went ahead 16-13 to open the second before Grundy regained the lead. Kellys three point-play just before intermission broke a tie and put the Golden Wave ahead 33-30 at the break.
Ryan Gravleys 3-pointer put the Cavaliers back in front 42-41 midway through the third quarter before Grundy regained control with seven unanswered points. Though Grundy never went back ahead by more than seven points, the Golden Wave didnt trail the rest of the game.

Adam Crotts paced the Cavaliers with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Gravley scored 16 points for the Cavs, while Tyler Reavis reached double figures with 12 points.
