Kayla Goins scored 16 points and Emily Hiatt added a season-high 11 as Carroll County (4-0, 1-0 SWD) opened the Southwest District campaign with an 18-point win at Abingdon.
Holding a slim 21-19 lead at halftime, the Cavaliers limited the Falcons to just two points in the third quarter and nine in the second half. Meanwhile, Carroll picked up its offense and outscored Abingdon 25-9 after intermission to cruise to the victory. Hiatt nailed three 3-pointers for the Cavaliers, who canned eight treys on the evening.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well. We were 8-of-30 from the 3-point line. They packed it in on us defensively. We got open shots, but struggled at times to hit those,” Motley said. “Defensively we turned it up in the second half. We just came out sluggish, not ready to play. That was probably my fault for not having them ready, but they responded in the second half. We had a huge lift from Emily Hiatt off the bench. She is an excellent shooter. She shoots it extremely well from the outside. She’s had some confidence problems, so I hope this gets her going.”
Lauren Wilson led Abingdon with 12 points.
