A 51-year-old Galax man has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and breaking and entering of storage buildings.

According to Carroll County Sheriff H. Warren Manning, Billy Dean Caldwell has been charged with three counts each of breaking and entering, grand larceny, and petit larceny. In a press release, Manning said a search warrant was obtained by Carroll County Deputy Charley Catron and executed by members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Hillsville Police Department on Nov. 30 at a property Caldwell is renting in Hillsville.

The search resulted in the recovery of several stolen items from a storage building and from a vehicle break-in that occurred at the Exxon in Hillsville near Exit 14 off Interstate 77 over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Sheriff said.

Caldwell was taken into custody by Carroll County Investigator Shannon Goad.

Warrants obtained by Deputy Kevin Kemp led to the nine charges against Caldwell, who is being held with a secure bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin.
