A Max Meadows man faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the Sept. 15 traffic accident that claimed the life of a Hillsville woman in Dublin.

Dustin Keith Hodge, 24, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Sept. 15, 2012 death of Misty Dawn Davis, 26, of Hillsville. According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Davis was ejected from the accident on Route 100 near New River Valley Airport in Dublin that day.

Once on scene, officers found a 1995 Accura Integra driven by Hodge had left the roadway traveling north on Route 100 before going into the median and rolling several times before ending up in the southbound lanes of Route 100. The crash ejected both the front seat and back seat passengers.

Back seat passenger Justin Presgraves, 23, of Dublin, was flown from the scene with life-threatening injuries, Pulaski authorities said at the time. Hodges had to be extricated by the Dublin Fire Department and he was transported to the New River Valley Medical Center by ambulance before being flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

According to The Southwest Times, Hodge was charged with involuntary manslaughter in Davis’ death in an automobile accident “alleged to have (been) caused by virtue of gross negligence.” The newspaper quoted Pulaski County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor as saying his theory was that “Hodge was racing another vehicle at speeds approaching or exceeding 100 miles per hour, which caused the accident and resulted in the death of the victim.”

Involuntary manslaughter is a Class 5 felony carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine. According to Pulaski County Circuit Court records, Hodge is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 7, 2013 in relation to the charge.
