Myrtle Alene “Kate” Newman, 91, of Lambsburg, passed away at her home Friday, Mar. 06, 2009. Mrs. Newman was born in Carroll County on Apr. 17, 1917 to the late John and Rose Bobbitt Felts. Mrs. Newman is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law, Annie Isom of Mt. Airy, NC, Delma Bryant of Lambsburg, and Hazel and Ritchie Gunnell of Cana; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Kathleen Newman of Fries, Glenn and Tammy Newman of Stuart, Merle and Sandra Newman of Cana; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Newman; a son, Garnett Newman; daughter-in-law, Sudie Jo Newman; three sisters; three brothers and a half brother. A graveside service was conducted Sunday, Mar. 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Wes Mosteller and Rev. Brian Shupe.
