Carroll County rallied from an early deficit behind Tyler Reavis’ triple-double then won on James Lanning’s game-winning shot at the buzzer Saturday in a 60-58 Southwest District victory over Grundy.

A senior, Lanning fittingly provided the game-winner on Senior Night in Hillsville. A junior, Reavis led Carroll County (3-15, 207 SWD) with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the rare triple-double. He also collected four steals as Carroll broke a six-game losing streak, the Cavaliers’ first victory since a 70-65 SWD road win at Grundy on Jan. 3.

Lanning and Caleb Taylor both scored 10 points for the Cavaliers, who trailed 18-6 after the first quarter before slowly whittling away at the lead. Carroll outscored Grundy (5-12, 1-7 SWD) 14-12 in the second to cut the deficit to 30-20 at the half. The Cavs trimmed four more points off Grundy’s lead in the third before outscoring the Golden Wave 23-15 in the final quarter.
