Solomon Hawks, 91, of Fancy Gap, passed away on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at home. Mr. Hawks was born in Fancy Gap to the late Floyd and Martha Elizabeth McCraw Hawks. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Scioto Hawks; son, James Olen Hawks; step-daughter, Herma Hawks; six brothers; four sisters; and grandson, Barry Odell Horton. Mr. Hawks is survived by his children, Beatrice Oleane Horton and husband, Garnett of Woodlawn, Solomon Allan Hawks and wife, Treva of Mount Airy, NC, and Jacob Floyd Randall Hawks and wife, Sue of Fancy Gap; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a special caregiver. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at Skyview Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Winford Davis and Rev. Kenneth Hopkins officiating.
