The four Mount Airy, N.C. men charged after an armed robbery that led to a high-speed police chase and sparked a 16-hour manhunt on Aug. 26 were indicted on a long list of charges Monday by a Carroll County Grand Jury.

Christopher Ryan Music, 20, William Lloyd Music, 23, James Russell Music, 20, all brothers, and Corey Keith Smith, 20, all were indicted on numerous charges Monday.

Three of the suspects were apprehended as of that night, while the fourth was arrested the next morning.

According to police reports, David Branscome, Jr. pulled into his home on Buffalo Road in Dugspur at approximately 1:30 p.m. when he caught the suspects coming out of his home with guns, televisions, DVDs and other assorted items. At that point, Carroll County Sheriff Warren Manning said the suspects shot the tires out on Branscome’s vehicle and fled in a Green Ford Explorer with North Carolina tags.

At 1:50 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Cody Edwards observed a vehicle which matched the description on Route 221 heading into the Town of Hillsville. When Deputy Edwards tried to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled at a high rate of speed. Police vehicles driven by Sheriff Manning and Hillsville Police Department officer David Walls were rammed by the suspects during the pursuit, causing about $2,000 in total damage to the vehicles, Manning said.

The pursuit continued onto Interstate 77, where the suspects headed southbound for approximately two miles before crossing the median and switching directions. At mile marker 11 northbound, the suspected vehicle stopped and three subjects ran from the vehicle on foot by Manning and Walls, leaving behind Christopher Music, who was apprehended by HPD Officer Alan Gravley.

The abandoned Explorer was confiscated along with several weapons and other items taken from Branscome’s residence.

A manhunt initiated by Manning and headed up by Chief Deputy Glenn Nester immediately commenced for the remaining suspects with participation from on- and off-duty officers from several local law enforcement agencies, including Carroll County K-9 Brenda.

About five hours later at approximately 7 p.m., Manning said citizens contacted the Sheriff’s Office reporting sightings of suspects "not far from Warby Semones’ barn off I-77 around mile marker 12 or 13." The call led to the arrest of James Music and Corey Smith, Manning said.

At 6:05 a.m. the following morning, the fourth and final suspect, William Lloyd Music, was arrested at the Exxon station at Exit 8 in Fancy Gap after the Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a suspicious individual at the convenience store. William Music was apprehended without incident by HPD Sgt. Wesley Yonce, Officer Alan Gravley, and Deputy Edwards.
