Berlin Goad, 71, of Bassett, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 30, 2008 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was the son of the late Ellis Goad and Lila Dalton Goad. He was a Veteran having served his country in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Orchard Drive Baptist Church and retired from Bassett Furniture. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Inamae Tolbert and his brother, Archie Vernon Goad. Survivors include his wife, Dora Goad of the home; grandson, Chuck Martin of the home; step-daughter, Teri Martin of Bassett; Debi Handy of Marion; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Arlie Goad of Canton, OH; Douglas Goad of Martinsville; seven sisters, Imogene Nester, Opal Alderman, Ivery Dalton, Betty Carter, Ruby Thomas all of Dugspur; Margie Nester of Bassett and Ann Akers of Kernersville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with Pastor Jim Steele, Rev. Freddie Bonds officiating. Interment followed in the Goad Family Cemetery, Carroll County. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Orchard Drive Baptist Church, 228 Orchard Drive; Bassett, VA 24055.
