Tazewell blasted three home runs and Mike Wood hurled a three-hit shutout Thursday as the undefeated Bulldogs topped Carroll County 9-0 in a Southwest District contest in Hillsville.

Wood struck out 11 in a shutout performance on the mound and added a two-run homer at the plate as the Bulldogs cruised to the 9-0 win. He got plenty of help as Christian Boyd blasted a grand slam and Jordan Jones ripped a two-run dinger in Tazewell's six-run third inning. The Bulldogs added two more in the fifth on Wood's two-run shot, and tacked on one more run in the sixth.

Blake Bowman, Dillon Bryant and Graham Matthews each had one hit for the Cavaliers.

Lineberry struck out seven and walked none in the shutout win. He also scored four runs, drove in another and led the Cavaliers with four hits. He got the Carroll offense rolling in the first as he reached on a two-out single and scored on Dillon Bryant's RBI double to left for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Cavs added another run in the second with two outs as Morgan Edwards singled and scored on Tyler Snow's double to right. Carroll took control with four runs in the third inning. Blake Bowman and Lineberry both singled to open the inning. Both scored on Jordan Lamb's three-run homer to left center. Jared Cox later walked and made it 6-0 after he crossed home on Morgan Edwards' RBI double.

Carroll made it 8-0 in the fourth as Bowman scored on a balk and Lineberry scored on Cox's RBI single. The Cavs ended the game by the mercy rule in the fifth with three more runs, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Lineberry and Bryant.

Bowman went 3-for-4 for Carroll and scored three runs, while Bryant went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Morgan Edwards scored a run and drove in another in a 2-for-2 effort, while Lamb went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer. Cox and Snow both went 1-for-2 with an RBI each.
