Carroll Co. 55, Marion 26
Backed by a suffocating defense, Carroll County’s girls’ basketball team cruised to a 55-26 Southwest District victory Jan. 25 at Marion.
The Cavaliers gave up just four points each in the first and second quarters to roll to a 28-8 halftime lead. Carroll County gave up just seven more points in the third to extend its advantage to 40-15 with eight minutes to play.
“I thought it was a tremendous effort defensively,” Carroll County head coach Marc Motley said. “We held them to eight in the first half. When you’re up 28-8 at the half, you feel good that you can keep them from scoring and we did that. I’m very pleased with the effort.”
Crysta Guynn went 8-of-9 from the charity stripe en route to a game-high 17 points for the Cavaliers.
“She had kind of a breakout game,” Motley said. “I thought she played extremely well.”
Shyann Dalton added 11 points for the Cavaliers, all of which came in the first half, to go along with six rebounds. Maleah Neely narrowly missed a double-double as she led Carroll with 10 rebounds to go along with nine points. Rachel Dalton paced the Cavaliers with six assists in the win.
