Knights run away from Cavs

Tyler Rice ran for 211 yards and three touchdowns Friday as Cave Spring defeated Carroll County 34-0 in a River Ridge District game in Roanoke.

Carroll County (1-5, 0-3 River Ridge) fought the Knights to a scoreless draw for one quarter.Rice busted two touchdowns and quarterback Jacob Knight connected with Matt Gliniecki on a 6-yard touchdown pass, however, as Cave Spring (2-5, 2-2 River Ridge) scored 20 points in the second quarter.

Rice, who ran for 211 yards on 21 carries, put the Knights in front 13-0 after breaking touchdown runs of 31 and five yards in the second quarter. After Gliniecki’s touchdown pass wrapped up the first half, Rice struck again with a 63-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to increase the Cave Spring lead to 27-0. The Knights added one more score in the third quarter as Zach Bowling scampered for a 25-yard touchdown run.

Cave Spring dominated the action, outgaining the Cavaliers 422-113 in total yards. Carroll managed just five first downs on the evening and punted 14 times compared to just four punts for the Knights. Cave Spring rushed for 302 yards on 39 carries, an average of 7.7 yards per rush, while the Cavaliers were limited to 91 yards rushing on 41 carries, an average of 2.2 yards per run.

Brennan Vaught led the Cavalier offense with 14 carries for 46 yards, while Noah Johnson ran for 29 yards on just three carries. Colin Wells rushed for 22 yards on four totes for Carroll. Chanz Quesenberry completed 2 of 8 passes for the Cavs for 22 yards.

Carroll County will look to rebound this Friday as it returns to Tommy Thompson Field for its first home game since Sept. 25 against undefeated Pulaski County (7-0). The Cavaliers were scheduled to play Salem at home Oct. 2, but the game was canceled due to heavy rain.
