Paper ballots will be back in the voting booths next year

There’s an old saying “Everything old is new again.” That will be proven next year when paper ballots will be used for all elections in the Town of Hillsville and Carroll County. The change came about due to General Assembly legislation in 2007.“The General Assembly passed legislation that direct read equipment (touch screens) could no longer be purchased. They want a paper trail,” said Kimberly Cloud, general registrar for Carroll County. “Our touch screen machines are repairable, but it is more cost efficient to transfer to optical scan equipment, which provide a paper trail.”

 

HERO Day will bring together public, those in the line of service

On May 3, Carroll County will host HERO (Hearts Empowered to Rescue Others) Day, an event designed to celebrate everyday heroes, such as law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS technicians.The scheduled activities will not only provide a day of camaraderie and competition, but provide members of the community with the opportunity to learn about the extensive training required of those who may one day save their life. Wind gusts of 100 mph blow over two trucks on I-77

Estimated wind gusts of 100 miles per hour caused two tractor-trailers to overturn Tuesday on Interstate 77 North in Carroll County.According to the Virginia State Police, both vehicles overturned near the 2.7 and 2.8 mile markers on I-77 North. A Cana man has been charged with DUI after a single-vehicle accident that resulted in him being airlifted from the scene of an accident in Cana on Thursday.According to Virginia State Police Senior Trooper S.E.
