The Hillsville Police Department has arrested a local man on numerous charges stemming from a check forgery scheme. Scott Eric Jarels, 34, of Hillsville, was arrested Thursday, April 19, by Sgt. James Alderman and Sgt. Alan Gravley.
As a result of this investigation and a similar investigation by the Galax Police Department, Jarels is currently charged with 21 felonies and one misdemeanor traffic charge, Hillsville Police Chief Steve Williams said. Three Galax warrants were served during the arrest and Sgt. Alderman obtained 18 additional felony warrants, six each for forgery, uttering and obtaining money by false pretense. Jarels was also charged with driving while suspended.
Further investigation revealed that Jarels is a fugitive from Michigan and wanted on charges there for the same type of crimes, said Williams. Jarels is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail on $10,000 bond and a probation violation from Carroll County Circuit Court.
In a separate case, four local individuals were arrested on April 16 as the result of a domestic incident that occurred in Hillsville. Terry Jean Walls, a 39-year-old female from Dugspur, and William Brent Walls, 21, of Hillsville were each charged with one count of assault and battery. Brianna Lashei Floyd, 21, of Hillsville, was charged with two counts of assault and battery, and Justin Lee Quesenberry, 26, of Hillsville, was arrested on a fugitive warrant from South Carolina.
Qusenberry was wanted for a South Carolina probation violation and is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail pending his extradition to South Carolina. Both Walls and Floyd have been released on bond.
