Kimble whiffs 14 as Carroll drills Tazewell

Lillie Kimble struck out 14 and allowed just five hits and no earned runs April 24 as Carroll County earned a 9-1 Southwest District road victory at Tazewell. Kimble had her stuff working all day, fanning two Tazewell batters each in five different innings. She whiffed three Bulldogs in the fifth inning. The Carroll County (9-4, 1-1 SWD) offense got plenty of work as well, scoring three runs each in the first and second innings to race to a 6-0 advantage. The Cavaliers added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to coast to the victory. It all started with two outs in the opening inning as Ragan Halsey singled and Eden Durnil drove in Autumn Hill on an error. Grace Lindsey followed with a two-run single to give Carroll a quick 3-0 advantage. The Cavs continued the onslaught in the second as Lexi Hodge and Jordan Nunn ripped back-to-back singles. Kimble followed with an RBI grounder for a 4-0 edge. With two outs, Hill and Ragan Halsey both delivered run-scoring singles to up the Carroll cushion to 6-0. Nunn opened the fourth with a single and a steal of second base. She later scored on Hill’s RBI single to put the Cavs ahead 7-0. Lindsey then led off the fifth with a single before scoring on Ashley Willard’s RBI double. Willard later scored after Nunn reached on an error. Tazewell’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth after an error. Lindsey and Hill each had two hits and two RBIs for Carroll County, while Halsey and Nunn each had two hits and one RBI each.
