HPD makes another arrest in string of burglaries

As part of a continuing investigation, the Hillsville Police Department has made more arrests in a series of residential burglaries that have occurred in Hillsville during the past few months.

On June 2, Ashley Nicole Threatt, 19, of Hillsville, was arrested and charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of grand larceny, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Hillsville Police Chief Steve Williams said in a press release.

Threatt was released on bond pending her initial appearance in Carroll County General District Court. Officer Josh Edwards and Sgt. James Alderman continue to follow up with this investigation.

Williams said Threatt’s arrest is related to the same investigation that recently resulted in the arrests of Tina Starlena Carte, 43, and Amber Rose Cottle, 18, both of Hillsville, and Shane Rodrick Burcham, 24, of Galax

On May 28, Williams announced those three individuals were charged with distribution of marijuana, and two of the three were also charged with a string of burglaries that have occurred in Hillsville. As a part of the investigation, HPD officers went to a residence at Westview Terrace Apartments on May 25 to serve arrest warrants. Once inside the apartment, officers began questioning the occupants and quickly discovered that two of the individuals were responsible for at least five burglaries in Hillsville, Williams said.

A large amount of stolen property was recovered which included electronic equipment, jewelry, and other items as well as a large amount of cash stolen from one of the burglaries, Williams said. The burglaries had occurred at Elite Styles Hair Salon, H&R Block, and residences in Hillsville.

Marijuana was also discovered and seized along with items of drug paraphernalia and $569 in cash.

Carte, Cottle, and Burcham, were all charged with one felony count of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, while Burcham and Cottle were also each been charged with five counts of breaking and entering, four counts of grand larceny, and one felony count of destruction of property. Additionally, Burcham also faces one charge of larceny of a credit card that was recently reported stolen from the locker room at the Carroll Wellness Center, Williams said.

A search warrant was executed at the residence on May 26, and after a more thorough search, more stolen property was recovered. Approximately $3,957 worth of personal property and $2,377 in stolen cash has been recovered as well as 561 old coins and several items of jewelry, Williams said.

In an unrelated case, Shawn Babriel Lindsey, 30, of Hillsville was arrested on June 1 and charged with possession of a Schedule I or II substance. Sgt. Robert Martin is handling this investigation.

Why don’t countries like us?
Ever wonder which countries hate the United States the most. We are hated by a lot of countries, but we really can’t help it. We were just born with a strong personality and, quite possibly, a bi-polar disorder. Nevertheless, we are hated, that’s for sure. Either other countries want us to stay ...
