Name: Laura Sinclair
Family: Husband, Kerry; four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Occupation: Retired. Former Fieldcrest Mills Property Management, and auto business. Currently, doing upholstery work at the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home.
Where are you originally from? I was born in Mount Airy, grew up in Rural Hall, NC, moved here from Beaufort, NC, located on the North Carolina coast.
What clubs and churches do you belong? The Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home Foundation and the Hillsville Presbyterian Church.
Education: Currently a student at Surry Community College, studying viticulture & enology, renewable energy and upholstery.
What would you be doing if you weren’t doing what you do now? I don’t have a clue. I’m working on my “bucket list.”
What is the best part of your job? The best part of my current job is working with my sister doing upholstery work and being involved with a great group of women at the Carter Home.
Something most people don’t know about you: I am a beekeeper, used to fly an airplane, and am forklift certified.
Favorite food: I like everything.
Favorite book and/or writer: The Bible and The Man Who Moved A Mountain. I also like to read local authors’ novels and history. I particularly like books by Rooster Edwards.
Favorite music: Beach…grew up shagging at Chrystal Lake in Winston-Salem. Song, Lipstick Traces by Benny Spillman.
Favorite memory: Birth of my child, momma’s roast beef and my daddy’s lap.
Name something you find irritating and why? That person that blows their horn behind me as soon as the traffic light changes. Why? It’s inconsiderate.
Best advice you were ever given and who gave it? “Whatever you do in life, be the very best at it that you can be.” My sister.
What else would you like people to know about you? I am blessed more than I deserve. I love living here in Carroll County. After 30 years of hurricanes, humidity and mosquitos, this is heavenly.
