A 19-year-old Cana man has been charged with reckless driving after a Monday morning accident caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle and resulted in three people being transported to area hospitals.
According to Virginia State Police reports, the accident occurred Monday morning at 8:25 a.m. on U.S. Route 52 at the intersection of Route 685 (Winding Ridge Road) in Fancy Gap. Imogene Dalton, 51, of Fancy Gap, was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer south on Route 52 attempting to turn left on Winding Ridge Road when a 2003 Toyota driven by Matthew Ryan Combs, 19, of Cana, approached from the rear and was unable to stop, Investigating Trooper R.B. Phipps wrote in the report.
Combs’ vehicle then collided with the left front corner of Dalton’s Explorer, causing Combs’ Toyota to overturn in the parking lot of Ricky’s Muffler. Combs was ejected from the vehicle and two juvenile passengers in Combs’ Toyota were also injured, according to the report. All three were transported to area hospitals to be treated for injuries. Phipps charged Combs with reckless driving.
