Town picking up debris each Friday

In an effort to help people get rid of the debris left over from the recent storms, the Town of Hillsville is mulching collected limbs each Friday.

All the debris should be stacked at the curb, and each piece must be no longer than eight feet and no thicker than six inches. No stumps will be picked up or mulched.

Because of the amount of foliage brought down by the storms, Fridays are already scheduled through the end of August.

“We can do up to 12 (homes or businesses) each Friday, so that tells you how many calls we’ve had,” said Vickie Yonce, the town’s clerk of council. “Every time I see the sky getting darker, I worry we’re going to have another storm.”
