At 9:49 p.m., members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting call on Coal Creek Road. Upon arriving, deputies found Bryon Jordan Wilson, 27, of Hillsville, with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
Sheriff Warren Manning said in a press release that an altercation took place at the residence, and the suspect, David Levelle Richardson of Calloway Street in Galax, allegedly shot Wilson.
Richardson fled the scene, and during the ensuing search, he was found at a house near the crime scene.
Investigators Fred Bobbitt, Venton Smith and Shannon Goad obtained warrants.
Richardson is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm after being a convicted felon and the discharge of a firearm in an occupied dwelling. He also faces breaking and entering charges stemming from his flight from the scene of the crime.
Richardson is being held without bond in the New River Valley Regional Jail pending his arraignment in the Carroll County General District Court.
