KENNETH PUCKETT MEMORIAL 5K RUN/WALK
The CCHS Cross Country team and the Carroll County Recreation Department will be sponsoring the Kenneth Puckett Memorial 5K run/walk and Fun Run on Saturday, July 30. Registration is $15 and will begin at 7 a.m. and end at 8:15 a.m. The 1-mile Fun Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. The 5K run/walk and Fun Run will begin and end on the CCHS campus. CARROLL COUNTY VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE
Carroll County High School will begin varsity volleyball practice Aug. 1. Practice will go from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and again from 1 to 3 p.m. JV practice will begin that same day from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. VSHL physicals are required before you can participate.
CCHS GOLF PRACTICE
The Carroll County High School Golf Team will have practice/tryouts on August 1 at 10 a.m. at Olde Mill for students in grades 8-12. Aug. 1 is the first day of practice. Physicals required. For more information call Coach Cory Jackson at 733-7116.

The CCHS Cross Country team will begin practice on Monday, August 1 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Carroll County High School. Anyone in grades 7-12 interested may participate. GALAX CROSS COUNTRY PRACTICE
Galax High School Boys and Girls Cross Country practice will begin August 1 at 8 a.m. at the New River Trail Caboose access in Galax. Meet at the parking lot. The Galax Cross Country team is open to all

STACI B. WERTMAN GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Annual Staci B. Wertman Golf Tournament will be held Sat., Aug. 6 at Blue Ridge Country Club in Galax. This tournament is held in memory of Staci Banks Wertman and to benefit the Staci B. Wertman Scholarship that was started by the Carroll County Wellness Center. The scholarship is presented yearly to a graduating Carroll County High School senior (currently $1,500/year and growing) who will be going into Special Education. The day will start with check-in from 12 to 12:30 p.m., followed by lunch (provided) from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Shotgun start is set for 1:30 p.m. Tournament format is 18-hole Captain's Choice, and cost is $50 per golfer or $200 per team. CAMP DICKENSON CAPTAIN'S CHOICE TOURNAMENT
The 16th Annual Camp Dickenson Four-Man captain's Choice Golf Tournament will be held at Draper Valley Gold Club on Weds., Aug. 10 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Prizes will be given for first, second and third place. Entry fee is $280 per team and includes green fees, cart, a cookout lunch including Pulaski Baseball BBQ, and soft drinks on the course during the round. For registration call the camp at (276) 744-7241 or John Hawley at (540) 980-7381. Prizes will be awarded on each hole for either closest to pin, longest putt, or long drive (men, women and senior). There will be a $10,000 hole-in-one prize on hole #7 and hole-in-one prizes on the other par 3s. Also a chance to win $100 cash in a putting contest.
CARROLL COUNTY SOCCER ASSOCIATION FALL SOCCER SIGN-UPS
The Carroll County Soccer Association will hold soccer sign-ups at the Southwestern Virginia Training Center and St. Paul Elementary School on Tuesday, August 16, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday, August 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sign-ups will also be held during the soccer mini-camp at Carroll County High School on Saturday, August 20, from 9 a.m. Cost for the fall season is $20 for ages 4-14 years (age as of September 1, 2011). A $5 late fee will be charged for sign-ups after 12:30 p.m. on August 20, and space on a team is not guaranteed for late sign-ups. Games will start September 10 and are played on weekends through September and October (2 p.m. or later on Sundays). The soccer mini-camp on Saturday, August 20, will be presented by JH Soccer Academy. Times for the camp are 9 to 10:15 a.m. for ages 4-7 and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 8-12. HUNTERS EDUCATION COURSE
A Hunters Education Course will be held from 8 a.m-6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Hillsville Masonic Lodge at 707 Cox Street in Hillsville. Class is limited to 50 participants. Registration required. For registration information, contact Bradley Nester at (276) 728-0694.
GALAX PARKS AND RECREATION HUNTERS EDUCATION COURSE
Galax Parks and Recreation will have Hunters Education Certification Courses on Aug. 16 and Aug. 18 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Galax Recreation Center. Registration is from July 25 – August 12. You must attend both sessions to receive hunter education certification card. Cost is $5. Course will be limited to the first 30 people to sign up and pay.
