The 27 Carroll County students aboard Bus #5 are safe after it collided with a car at the intersection of Route 221 and Route 100 in Hillsville on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Superintendent of Carroll County Schools Dr. Strader Blankenship, all 27 students were checked out by rescue squads on the scene and were uninjured. Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Delp said the incident happened sometime around 3:15 p.m. when a 2000 Toyota Corolla driven by Tabitha August Dauch, 18, of Austinville, pulled off of Hard Scuffle Road and in front of the bus driven by Nancy Cressell Justus, 65, of Hillsville.

Delp said Dauch will be charged with failure to yield right of way. He said damage to the bus was minimal, but the car was probably totaled. Blankenship said the students were transferred to another school bus and would be 15-20 minutes delayed in reaching their destinations.
