A Sparta, N.C. man has been charged with possession of heroin and several counts of felony child endangerment and neglect following an incident Thursday at McDonald’s in Hillsville.
According to Hillsville Police Department reports, 1st Sgt. Robert Martin responded to a call at the McDonald’s restaurant for a male and female who appeared to be intoxicated. On his arrival, Martin was advised the female was unresponsive and passed out in the women’s bathroom and the male was leaving in a red truck with West Virginia tags with several children in it.
Martin found a woman lying on a bathroom floor and called rescue for her due to her condition and evidence at the scene, according to the report. The woman was later identified as Tracy Lynn Calhoun, age 29, of Sparta, N.C. Martin was also able to stop the male he identified as John Caldwell Calhoun, who was with the woman and appeared to be trying to leave in the truck with several children.
During this investigation and due to evidence and statements made at the scene, Martin charged John Caldwell Calhoun , 31, of Sparta, with possession of Heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several counts of felony child endangerment and neglect. Tracy Lynn Calhoun was transported to Twin County Regional Hospital.
“This case is still under investigation and more charges and arrests are expected,” the Hillsville Police Department said in the press release. “Officer Martin was assisted by members of Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, Captain J.A. Alderman and Sgt. Gravley with Hillsville Police Department. Many thanks are extended to the staff at McDonald’s who cared for Mrs. Calhoun during this incident.
