Carroll men charged in armed robbery of McDonald’s
A pair of Carroll County teenagers have been charged in the attempted armed robbery Monday of a McDonald’s restaurant in Lambsburg.
According to Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner, dispatchers received a call at 2:08 a.m. Monday morning that a masked man entered the McDonald’s Restaurant located inside Love’s Truck Stop in an attempt to rob the cashiers. The man produced a large hunting knife and demanded money, Gardner said.
“During a scuffle for the knife, employee’s subdued Jeffrey Isaac Welch of 295 Spruce Lane, Fries, Va., and detained him until deputies arrived at the scene and took Welch into custody,” Gardner said in a press release. “During the scuffle, one of the employees was injured.”
Upon further investigation into the incident, a second suspect was identified as an accomplice in the robbery but he had fled the scene when he realized things had not gone well for his partner inside. Logan Mackenzie Jones was later arrested by Deputies at his residence located at 100 Mountain View Road in Cana without incident, Gardner said.
According to the Sheriff, Welch, 19 years old, was charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and malicious wounding. Logan Mackenzie Jones, 19 years old, was charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and for accessory to commit armed robbery.
Both Welch and Jones are being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
