A Hillsville man has been charged with DUI, resisting arrest and other charges after nearly hitting a police cruiser head-on before leading police on a high-speed chase Tuesday.
According to Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner, Lt. Bobby Lyons was preparing to stop a car on Route 221 in Hillsville near the BP Drive-In on Sept. 8 at 9:33 p.m. when both the car he was preparing to stop and his police cruiser were nearly hit head-on by a Jeep Wagoneer on the wrong side of the road.
“Lt. Lyons turned around, caught up to the jeep and activated his emergency equipment, at which time the Jeep attempted to speed off,” Sheriff Gardner said in a press release. “The Jeep continued up East Grayson Street at a high rate of speed, turned north on Main Street, and continued on 52 North, turning onto Cross Creek Road. The pursuit ended when the Jeep wrecked on the dirt portion of the road.”
Gardner said the driver ran from the car, but was taken into custody by Lt. Lyons a short time later. The driver was identified as Brandon Keith Wall, 32, of Hillsville. Gardner said Wall was charged with DUI, refusing a blood or breath test, two counts of reckless driving, resisting arrest, felony fail to stop for a law enforcement officer, and driving after his operator’s license had been suspended. Wall was transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail and is being held without bond.
