Hillsville man arrested on child porn, drug charges

A joint effort between member agencies of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SOVA-ICAC) has led to an array of charges for a Hillsville resident.

According to the Hillsville Police Department, Christopher Garry Brown, 43, of John Edwards Lane in Hillsville, was arrested by the Hillsville Police Department, with assistance by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, on October 13 on charges of possession of child pornography, possession of a Schedule II drug, and possession of firearm while in possession of a Schedule II drug.

The SOVA-ICAC Task Force is based in Forest, Virginia. The common goal of the task force, which consists of more than 100 local, state, and federal agencies, is to combat Internet crimes against children through training and enforcement, as well as educating the public in Internet safety for children.

Brown is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond. According to the New River Valley Regional Jail website, all three charges Brown faces are felonies. The website lists his charges as narcotics possession (Class 5 felony), Possession of a Schedule II drug while in possession of a firearm (Class 6 felony) and the child pornography charge (listed on the website as possessing obscene material, a Class 6 felony).
