A joint effort between member agencies of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SOVA-ICAC) has led to an array of charges for a Washington County resident.

Darius Lee Foran, Sr., age 49, of Blue Springs Road in Meadowview, was arrested June 1 by the Hillsville Police Department on charges of two counts of use of communication systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children, according to a press release issued Friday by the Hillsville Police Department.

According to the press release, Hillsville Police Detective Robert Martin affected the arrest of Foran after Foran had traveled from Washington County to Hillsville to meet what he expected to be a female subject under the age of 15 whom he had been communicating with online.

Detective Martin’s continued investigative efforts into Foran’s actions led him to contact Lieutenant J. S. Blevins of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

“That contact initiated an investigation, which ultimately led to a search warrant being executed at Foran’s home on June 10. The search resulted in the seizure of computers, multiple electronic storage devices and firearms. The firearms were seized because Foran had a previous felony conviction,” according to the press release. “An examination of the computers and storage devices revealed several thousand images and several videos of child pornography. Foran has now been charged in Washington County with 50 counts of possession of child pornography and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.”

Foran will appear in Washington County General District Court on July 27. He will appear in Carroll County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on August 8. Foran is currently being held without bond in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin.

Chief Wesley Yonce of the Hillsville Police Department commends Detective Martin and Lieutenant Blevins for their outstanding work on this case. Martin and Blevins are both members of the SOVA-ICAC Task Force based in Forest, Virginia. The common goal of this task force is to combat internet crimes against children through training and enforcement, as well as educating the public in internet safety for children.
