Double murder suspect facing child porn, rape charges

Staff Report

Richard Nofsinger Jr.

The man charged with murdering a Galax woman and her infant daughter now faces federal charges of child pornography in the case, according to multiple news agencies.

Richard Nofsinger Jr., 36, was originally arrested May 17 by members of the Galax Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in the deaths of Alyssa Kenny and her infant daughter Anastasia Alley. On March 10, a Galax Police Officer responded to a home on Laurel Street and discovered the bodies of the mother and daughter – deaths that were obviously caused by a violent attack, Galax Police said at the time. Nofsinger was then charged with Capital Murder in the death of Anastasia Alley and Murder in the First Degree in the death of Alyssa Kenny.

According to Roanoke television stations WDBJ7 and WSLS 10, Nofsinger now faces additional federal charges. WSLS 10 reported Monday that Nofsinger faces federal charges in connection to child pornography found on his cell phone, according to an affidavit filed with the district court.

“On May 25, Richard Nofsinger Jr., 36, was charged with production and attempted production of child pornography,” the WSLS website reported Monday. “According to the affidavit, the charges were filed after Nofsinger’s cell phone was searched following his arrest for the murders. The affidavit states that eight sexually explicit videos were found on his LG phone and that Nofsinger was seen in at least three of the videos sexually abusing a young girl.”

WDBJ7 also reported Monday that “in a criminal complaint, a United States Secret Service Agent says Nofsinger was arrested for the ‘murder and rape of both Alyssa Ann Kenny and her young daughter.’”

Area attorney Jonathon Venzie and The Capital Defense Team have been named as Nofsinger’s attorneys in the case.
