A Galax man has been arrested and charged with capital murder and first-degree murder in the March 10 slayings of a Galax woman and her infant daughter.
On May 17, members of the Galax Police Department and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office arrested Richard Denny Noftsinger, Jr., 36, of Galax in connection with a murder that was reported to Galax Police on March 10, Galax Police Chief Rick Clark said in a press release.
On March 10, a Galax police officer responded to a home on Locust Street located in the city and discovered the body of Alyssa Kenny and her infant daughter, Anastasia Alley.
“Their deaths were obviously caused by a violent attack,” Clark said in the release. “Late on the afternoon of May 17, information was received that resulted in the investigative team consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Carroll County, Nathan Lyons. During that meeting a decision was made to obtain warrants for the suspect charging him with Capital Murder in the death of Anastasia Alley and Murder in the First Degree in the death of Alyssa Kenny.”
Clark said the case is still an active investigation and law enforcement will continue to pursue information as it is received.
“The department will continue to work with the Virginia Bureau of Forensic Science where evidence is still being examined. We anticipate as the investigation continues that additional items of evidence will be submitted for analysis,” Clark said. “The police department expresses our gratitude for the many citizens who called and offered information during this investigation.”
The Galax Police Department was aided in the investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police. The department also consulted with and continues to consult with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Noftsinger is held without bond in the New River Valley Regional Jail pending his arraignment.
