The Virginia State Police and Carroll County Sheriff’s Department are investigated the origin of a structure fire that totaled a home Feb. 2 in Hillsville.
According to Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Donnie Spangler, firefighters responded to an unoccupied residence at 1164 Homestead Road in Hillsville at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 2. A total of 25 firefighters from the Hillsville Fire Department, Barren Springs Fire Department and Carroll County EMS battled the blaze until about 4:15 a.m. Spangler said the residence is still standing, but is most likely a total loss.
Spangler said the home is owned by Kathy Manning, but nobody was living there at the time of the fire. He said the interior of the home was fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene.
“Right now the Virginia State Police and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office are looking into it to try to determine the cause and origin of the fire,” Spangler said. “The house was unoccupied and didn’t have any power.”
