Familiar faces in the Carroll County Public School Division are in new places — or at least have new roles.

During the June 26 closedown meeting, the Carroll County School Board accepted several recommendations for personnel changes within the district. Those changes took effect on July 1.

Former Director of Operations Dennis Green is now the Coordinator of Student Services and Truancy. Green will serve as a liaison between the schools and the court system and will work with principals and schools to facilitate the attendance program and truancy within the schools.

Wade Meredith, who previously served as Alternative Education and Student Services Coordinator, will now serve as Alternative Education Coordinator.

Bob Martin, who for years has operated as principal at Hillsville Elementary School, is the division’s new Crisis Management and Energy Conservation Coordinator.

“We have a substantial crisis management program as well as energy conservation program that he will be supervising and monitoring,” said Carroll County Schools Superintendent Dr. Greg Smith.

Taking Martin’s place at HES is Ross Scott, who most recently served as a math coach at Woodlawn. Scott has extensive administrative experience in school systems in North Carolina.

“We feel he will do an excellent job,” Smith said.

Jerry King is moving from the administrative position in one school to another. Previously the principal at Gladesboro Elementary, King takes over as principal at Woodlawn School.

“Jerry will do an outstanding job there and we'll look forward to his energy and his passion for teaching and learning,” Smith said.

King’s new assistant principal is Jesse Woods, who was the lead teacher at the Regional Alternative Education Center. Smith said Woods has been used often as a temporary assistant principal in the past, and he’s earned the opportunity.

“He’s proven to be a solid academic and discipline-oriented individual,” Smith said.

Donna Trice, who has served as Foodservice Supervisor, is returning to the classroom, as the Family Life and Consumer Science teacher at Carroll County Intermediate School.

Three administrative openings remain in the CCPSD. Vacancies have yet to be filled for principal and assistant principal at Carroll County High School, as well as the vacancy created by King’s departure at Gladesboro Elementary. Smith said he hopes to fill those slots at the next School Board meeting.

“It is my goal and my hope to have recommendations to fill these vacancies at the July 14 meeting,” Smith said.
