From signature pizza twists that are surprisingly filling to a pizza so large you need an SUV to haul it, Hillsville’s newest restaurant offers a wide variety of food of all shapes and sizes.

While pizza is certainly the drawing card for Pizza-Perfect on Main, the new restaurant offers a vast range of pastas such as ziti, spaghetti, ravioli, manicotti, lasagna, chicken parmesan, and chicken fettuccini. If none of those are your thing, you can find an assortment of calzones and stromboli, or 14 different sandwiches and subs. Pizza-Perfect also offers five different types of burgers, wings and a good selection of appetizers and salads.

No matter what you order, primary owner Ahmed Warshana says he takes great strides to make sure everything in his restaurant, which opened June 11, is of high quality.

“It’s high-grade food at a medium price,” Warshana said. “Our pizza dough, pizza sauce, ranch sauce, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, it is all made fresh daily.”

After 16 years away from the restaurant business, Warshana said he started getting the itch to return about a year ago. He used to own Ciro’s Pizza in Hillsville when it was located in the Hickory Hills Shopping Center, but left in 1998 after a falling out with his business partner at the time.

“I used to work in the pizza business and decided I wanted to get back into it,” Warshana said. “Everything we have now is completely different from when I was at Ciro’s.”

Warshana considers the restaurant’s Pizza Twists and The Colossus to be his signature dishes. Baked to “Pizza-Perfection,” each Pizza Twist is glazed with garlic butter and served with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.

Perhaps the best way to describe a Pizza Twist would be to think of a Tostino’s Pizza Roll on steroids for performance-enhancing taste and size. Warshana originally started to put his Pizza Twists as an appetizer, but they are so filling they can easily be a main course as 10 of them would be enough to fill most appetites.

“People love the twists. It is new to them. They are stuffed. You roll the dough and stuff if with any item you like. Then we cut it, so it comes in orders of 10, 20, 30 or 40, and then we flip them,” Warshanna said. “We offer them in cheese, chicken, BBQ chicken and pepperoni. We can add whatever you want to them, but the more you get, the stuffier they get.”

And then there is The Pizza-Perfect Colossus. In what can only be described as The Incredible Hulk of pizzas, The Colossus is so big it is not available for delivery because it will not fit in most cars. So if you decide to order one of the 28-inch behemoths, keep in mind you will either need to dine in or bring a pick-up truck. And if you do decide to order a Colossus, you may want to give plenty of advance notice, possibly even a day ahead of time.

“We can only do four a day because it takes a lot of dough and takes up the whole oven. It is not available for delivery because it is so big,” Warshana said. “You may want to call a day ahead if you want The Colossus.”

“They are great for parties or business luncheons,” said Manager Angela Smith. “It is a maximum amount of four toppings. After that it would be too heavy. It is one heck of a pizza.”

For those not feeding an entire army, pizzas in more manageable sizes are available. Pizza varieties include Supreme, Meat Lovers, Veggie, The Greek, Hawaiian, Cheese Steak Pizza, and Chicken Pizza. A total of 16 different toppings are available for pizzas, stromboli and calzones.

Desserts include Fancy Ice Cream, Carrot Cake, Cheese Cake, Tiramasu, milkshakes, Chocolate Mousse, and Zabola (round, fried yeast bread with powdered sugar cinnamon and syrup).

Warshana said the restaurant offers free Wi-Fi and will begin delivering around the first week of July. So far reaction to the restaurant has been very positive, Smith said.

“We have had one family come in four times to eat here and we’ve only been open a week. The food is great,” Smith said. “We’ve been busy. We were completely full and they were lined up waiting to be seated, so it is a learning process as we start here. We are looking for more help. We need a little bit of time ahead (as we get fully staffed). People might want to call ahead for big parties or The Colossus.”

Warshanna added discounts would be given for bulk orders. Pizza-Perfect On Main is located at 510 N. Main Street in Hillsville across from the Historic Carroll County Courthouse. Hours are from 11 am.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant can be reached by calling (276) 728-7600.
