Fire totally destroyed a house located at 2813 Beamer’s Knob Road in Fancy Gap on Friday afternoon. Although it wasn’t a primary residence, it was a very big loss for Evelyn Beamer, who spotted the smoke from her home on Joy Ranch Road approximately 200 yards away.
“I saw the smoke and thought someone was burning brush,” said Beamer. “When I got down here, I thought I might be able to get some things out, but I couldn’t.”
The house was fully engulfed when two trucks from the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived. A truck from the Cana Volunteer Fire Department arrived later.
“It had all of my antiques, treasured memories of my mother, books and vintage clothing in it. The inside was wormy chestnut from an old barn,” said Beamer. “It was my little treasure house.”
“It was very special to me,” she added. “I kept journals for year. I feel like I’ve lost my history.”
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
