The fourth annual “Voices of the New River” talent search will return to the Hillsville VFW in March.
Auditions for soloists and groups will be held Saturday, March 15, starting at 10 a.m., and are open to artists 21 and under.
Last year’s event had approximately 25 entries; this year the event will take the first 50 entries. At the audition, performers will be judged by a panel of judges, all with musical backgrounds. The judges will narrow the field down to four performers in the group category and eight performers in the soloist category.
“Although we prefer people preregister, we do allow walk-ins,” said event organizer Steven Horton of the auditions.
The top performers will then perform on Sunday, March 30 from 3-5 p.m. at the VFW. The winners will be determined by a vote of audience members and a panel of judges.
The soloist and group winners will each win a grand prize of 30 hours of studio recording time, a $900 value, at Audio Lab studio in Galax. First runners-up will receive $100 each and second runners-up will receive $50 each.
During intermission, 2013 winners Pike City and Cody Kenny will perform.
The event is being sponsored by the New River Baptist Association, a ministry made up of 28 area churches, but is open to all youth regardless of church affiliation. Entry fees are $20 for soloists and $30 for groups, and admission is a love offering. All music must be church friendly.
