Local talent displayed in Lady Cavs’ Basketball Camp

August 9, 2013

A total of 54 kids participated in the Carroll County Lady Cavs’ Basketball Camp held July 29-Aug. 1 at Carroll County Middle School. The camp, for rising 4th-9th graders, proved there is still plenty of talent coming up through the ranks in the Cavalier basketball pipeline.

“Our numbers were a little bit down from average, but it is two more than we had last year. I think they economy has a lot to do with that, but our talent level is not down,” Carroll County girls’ head basketball coach Marc Motley said. “It seems like we are getting the kids out that are going to stay with us. With the older group I feel like the talent level is very solid right now.”

Aside from learning fundamentals and participating in skills’ challenges, campers also played 5-on-5 tournament games durng the week. The Alleyooping Alligators were the champion of the JV tournament. Team members were Dasia Lambert, Rayden Hawks, Ingrid Cupp, Josie Quesenberry, Olivia Barnes, Kailey White and Farris Horton.

Cavalier Madness won the Varsity 5-on-5 championship. Team members were Kenda Robinson, Mariah Carter, Megan Garland, Ami Thompson, Katy Smith and Hannah Spangler.
