Vernon Edwin Olson of Bawlf, Alberta, formerly of Hillsville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the age of 71 years. He was born September 9th, 1941 at St. Mary’s hospital in Camrose, Alberta, Canada. Vernon grew up in the Camrose area with his mother, father, four sisters and one brother. Once he left home he lived in Edmonton, Vermillion, and Calgary. In his early forties Vernon became a long haul trucker in the USA, over the next 28 years he lived in Texas, North Carolina and Virginia. At the age of 70 he moved home to Canada to reunite with his siblings and spend time getting to know his family here. He leaves behind his sons Daniel (Carrie) Olson of Finleyville, Pennsylvania and Ken Olson of Zama City, Alberta; three grandchildren Carlene, Alena, and Austin Olson; sisters Velma (Tom) Wedgwood of Bawlf, Alberta, Victoria (Dennis) Stenlund of Bawlf, Alberta, June Johnson of Stettler, Alberta and Grace Sawers of Viking, Alberta; and brother Roger Olson of Bawlf, Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Oscar Olson; sister Shirley Olson (infant); his son Rodrick Olson (14 months); sister-in-law Donna Olson; and bothers-in-law Mickey Johnson and Howard Sawers. If family and friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Alberta or to the charity of one’s choice. A funeral service was held Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
